Amiya Prasad, M.D., F.A.C.S. is a prominent multi-specialty, board-certified cosmetic and reconstructive surgeon who has been in practice in New York City and Long Island for over 20 years. He has helped people with hair loss throughout his career, beginning with surgical hair transplantation, and he is the founder of TrichoStem Hair Regeneration Centers.
Dr. Prasad completed his medical training at Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York City, followed by specialty training through the University of Texas in Houston and Galveston and at Baylor College of Medicine. He is board-certified in facial cosmetic surgery as well as breast, body and extremity surgery, and he is a Fellow of the American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery and the American College of Surgeons.
His work with hair loss grew out of an unrelated part of his surgical practice. Dr. Prasad had extensive experience applying extracellular matrix, or ECM, made by ACell, Inc. to support healing in surgical procedures such as facelift surgery. In the course of that work he observed that patients treated with ECM were also growing thicker hair in the treated areas. That observation, combined with his background in hair transplant surgery and a careful review of his own patient data, led him to develop the TrichoStem Hair Regeneration System in 2011.
The system is derived from stem cell-based wound healing technology, and Dr. Prasad's insight into the formulation and application of extracellular matrix has made it one of the most sought-after non-surgical treatments for pattern hair loss. He established TrichoStem Hair Regeneration Centers to make the treatment available beyond his New York practices, and he sees patients at the Vienna, Virginia office as well as in Manhattan and Garden City, Long Island.
